Sally ROSE (1955 – 2015)
Sally Rose passed away on 26 September 2015. She battled lung cancer for 12 months. She was one of the co-founders of the UK QSAR Discussion Group.
Sally started working at Wellcome in Beckenham, Kent, at the age of 18 and completed her academic study on day relief. She worked with people like Anne Hershey, Dave Livingstone, Dick Hyde, John Wood. In 1993 she obtained a PhD at Reading University with work on Multivariate QSAR and Molecular Similarity, with Hal MacFie as main supervisor. After closure of Wellcome in 1995 she was one of the co-founders of Biofocus, one of the very first chemistry-outsourcing companies in the world. More recently she worked in business development for Cresset, created by Andy Vinter.
In 2008 she early retired and with her husband Han van de Waterbeemd (email@example.com) they moved to the south of France to enjoy the beach and the mountains, culture and nature. Sally realised another dream there and wrote two fantasy novels (about Pevi) and lyrics for a few songs (about dragons, unicorns and mermen!). These can be freely downloaded from www.vsrose.co.uk and listened on YouTube.
